  • - Military state in the south of Greece
  • - Strong, well trained soldiers were feared throughout Greece.
  • - Boys joined the army at the age of 7-Woman stayed home, ran the farms, while the men trained for the army
  • - Council of Elders who suggested the laws for all the people to follow, voted on by all Spartan citizens
  • - Two kings in charge of military
  • - Enslaved Helots did most common labor

  • -Direct Democracy- rule by the people, not through representatives
  • -Athens focused on arts and learning
  • -Acropolis- means “high city”
  • -Parthenon- Temple dedicated to Athena
  • -Myths- traditional stories about Gods
