  • FASFA Completion Event – Free Advice from Financial Aid Experts. Saturday, February 2, 2013 at Wagner College, Spiro Hall, One Campus Road, Staten Island, NY 10301 at 10:00 am Sharp. Registration is required:

  • SUNY is offering two Statewide Student Financial Aid Days: January 19th and February 9th. At these events students and families will receive assistance from SUNY financial aid professionals in completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Workshops are free of charge. Visit to see a list of all participating campuses. Pre-registration is available at or by calling 800-342-3811.

The following colleges/universities/institutions are offering these scholarship opportunities:
10 Words or Less Scholarship- $500 award. Anyone who is between the ages of 14-25 who will be attending school in the Fall of 2013. A student must answer the question on the sponsor’s website in 10 words or less. Applications can be found by going to: Deadline: April 1, 2013.
2012 Bank of America Student Leaders Program – Students in good standing can apply for a chance to gain an 8-week paid summer internship and a week-long “summit” in Washington, DC. For more information visit Apply by January 25, 2013.
2013 Proyecto H.A.C.E.R. College Book Scholarship- is open to underrepresented minority women who are applying, or have applied and are awaiting an offer of admission from a college or university. Scholarship applicants must be in good academic standing with their high schools. Applicant must be an underrepresented minority woman and current high school senior who will enroll into a college or university in the fall of 2013. Please come to the College Office, Rm. Association of Black Educators of New York, Inc. (ABENY, INC.)

A 8 ½ x 11 typewritten composition, four letters of recommendation (2 of which must be from school personnel), resume which includes extra-curricular activities, community and school service. Postmark deadline: April 30, 2013. Come to the College Office for an application.

Carolina Rice Scholarship Program - $2,000 cash award – the makers of Carolina Rice are offering high school seniors the chance to compete for 1 of 5 $2,000 awards. Students must complete an essay of 150 to 250 words. For detailed information and to download an application, visit

Davidson Fellows Scholarships - $50,000 -20 Awards, 18 or younger as of Sept. 29, 2013, Be a US citizen residing in the United States or a Permanent Resident of the United States residing in the United States, or be stationed overseas due to active US military duty, have completed a significant piece of work in one of the submission categories. Be able to demonstrate that the work is his or her own creation.

Gilbraitti Scholarship – Must be between the ages of 16-20, must be attending a college or university in the fall of 2013, must complete the application form, including the essay. Visit for an application. Deadline: March 1, 2013.
Imagination Begins With You- High School Writing Contest -1st place winner receives $250 and $50 to school library, 2nd place receives $50. Short story, less than 1,000 words. Email to (no attachments please, include story in the test of the email) or mail to Brian Claspell – 104 Ivy Hollow lane, Mooresville, NC 28117. Include: Name, email address, high school and year in school, word count, and title of story. Short stories will be judged on creativity and imagination. Deadline: March 15, 2013.

Next Big Thing $1,500 Scholarship – U.S. Students 13 years or older. Respond (250 words max): “In the past decade, we have experienced amazing new ideas, inventions and technologies. Each new product—whether it is the latest smartphone, tablet, television, or car—is considered the “latest and greatest.” If you could create the “Next big thing” what would it be, what would it do, and why is it needed?” Apply at:

New Visions Scholarship Fund - Up to $20,000 over four years of full-time undergraduate study. Eligible seniors in New Visions schools must demonstrate: Academic achievement, college readiness, leadership, Integrity, Financial Need. Essay required and two letters of recommendation. Apply online at

Thurgood Marshall College Fund (Army’s ROTC Program) – Student must have a 3.7gpa, scores of 1260 SAT or 27 ACT, be a varsity letter winner or have an equivalent athletic achievement, African-American high school senior. ROTC Requirements – 4 semesters on campus, 4 year active service commitment upon completion of program (active duty, reserve duty, national guard), 4 year inactive service commitment (active duty, reserve duty, national guard). ROTC Benefits- 100% paid tuition, monthly stipend. Please see Mrs. Watkins ASAP.
Milton Fisher Scholarship – A four year scholarship of up to $5,000 per year for four years. For seniors who display evidence of innovative and creative problem solving. Essay required. National CO-OP Scholarship Program- 195 merit scholarships totaling $4.9 million. Students who are admitted to one of the ten institutions listed at are eligible to apply. Students must have a GPA of 3.5 or better. Apply and be accepted for one of the partner institutions listed on the website. Please complete the National Co-op Scholarship Program application including a typed one-page essay (300 words) describing why you have chosen to pursue a college cooperative education program and mail it to WACE, 600 Suffolk Street, Lowell, MA 01854. NCAA (Initial Eligibility Clearing Houses) -Student athletes interested in playing sports in college must register online at Click on the phone or use the login box in the top right hand corner to create an account. Be sure to read the entire guide. Pick up guidelines in the College Office.
NY 1 Scholar Athlete of the Week

Senior athletes who have a 90 average and 1650 SAT (based on new SAT) are eligible. Your sport must be in season to be nominated and also must have volunteer/work/or community service. See Ms. Watkins for details.


Eligibility: 80% GPA, school and community activities, SAT of 1600 or better on new SAT and written essay. Acceptance to a 4 year Engineering program in Civil Engineering, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or Construction Management/Occupational, Engineering or Architecture. Minorities and women are encouraged to apply. An application is available at Deadline to the College Office: April 26, 2013.

United Realty Students $10,000 Scholarship – U.S. students currently enrolled in high school or college between the ages of 16 and 22. Respond (700 words max): “How Do I Invest In My Future?” Apply at: Deadline: March 1, 2013.

WiseChoice $2,500 “Find the Right College” Scholarship – U.S. students graduating from high school in 2013-2016, Register for WiseChoice, Respond (200 words max): “Do you think “college fit matters” in the college selection process? Explain your answer.” Apply at: Deadline: May 31, 2013.
