Things to Know About ACT Compass® What Is ACT Compass?
ACT Compass is an untimed, computerized test that helps your college evaluate your skills and place you into appropriate courses. ACT Compass offers tests in reading, writing, math, writing essay, and English as a Second Language (ESL). You will receive your ACT Compass test results immediately upon completion of testing, and your score report will include placement messages informing you what courses you should take and how to register.
How Are ACT Compass Scores Used?
ACT Compass is not used like a traditional test. There is generally no "passing score." Rather, ACT Compass scores indicate areas in which you are strong and areas in which you may need help. Thus, ACT Compass can identify problems in major subject areas before they disrupt your educational progress, giving you the opportunity to prepare more effectively for needed courses. You and your institution can use scores from ACT Compass tests to prepare a course of study that will be appropriate, relevant, and meaningful for you.

What is ACCUPLACER? All NC Community Colleges are transitioning to giving the ACCUPLACER as the sole placement test for admissions.
ACCUPLACER is a suite of tests that determines your knowledge in math, reading and writing as you prepare to enroll in college-level courses. ACCUPLACER is used to identify your strengths and weaknesses in each subject area and to help you improve your skills through interactive online learning tools. The results of the assessment, in conjunction with your academic background, goals and interests, are used by academic advisors and counselors to place you in the appropriate college courses that meet your skill level.
How Does ACCUPLACER Work?
ACCUPLACER test questions are based on your responses to previous questions. Questions will either increase or decrease in difficulty depending on how you respond. ACCUPLACER tests are untimed; however, it is important to allow yourself enough time to complete the test since test results are a key factor in determining the course(s) you can enroll in. ACCUPLACER test results are available immediately following your test. Before you take ACCUPLACER, make sure to ask your academic advisor about your institution’s testing policies and procedures.

Thinking about a career in the Military????
About the ASVAB
If you're serious about joining the military, then get serious about the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB)
The ASVAB is a timed multi-aptitude test, which is given at over 14,000 schools and Military Entrance Processing Stations (MEPS) nationwide and is developed and maintained by the Department of Defense.
Start now by taking our practice ASVAB tests located at the following URL, http://www.military.com/join-armed-forces/asvab.
These tests will give you an idea of how you'll score, and identify areas that need improvement. Then use our suggested resources and ASVAB study guides to learn how to prepare for the ASVAB test.
How important is the ASVAB test?
Your scores in four critical areas -- Arithmetic Reasoning, Word Knowledge, Paragraph Comprehension and Mathematics Knowledge count towards your Armed Forces Qualifying Test (AFQT) score. The AFQT score determines whether you're qualified to enlist in the U.S. military.
Your scores in the other areas of the ASVAB will determine how qualified you are for certain military occupational specialties and Enlistment Bonuses. A high score will improve your chances of getting the specialty/job and signing bonus you want.
Scoring high on the ASVAB will require study and concentration. Don't skimp on preparing for this test. It's your future. Get the most out of it.
