- To encourage the study of Alberta history, the Historical Society of Alberta is continuing its $1,000 Essay Contest.
| Historical Society of Alberta $1,000 Essay Contest
As part of the Historical Society of Alberta’s continuing commitment to Alberta history and to the teaching of Alberta history in Alberta’s colleges and universities, the H.S.A. is pleased to announce its 2011-2012 essay contest. The aim of the contest is to encourage more students to learn about Alberta’s rich history and communicate that history to others. All post-secondary, undergraduate students in Alberta’s universities and colleges are invited to participate in the Historical Society of Alberta’s $1,000 Essay Contest. The author of the winning essay will receive $1,000 and the essay will be published in the Historical Society of Alberta’s quarterly publication, History NOW. Runner up essays may also be published in History NOW . H.S.A. $1,000 Essay Contest Guidelines Submit an essay that deals specifically with a topic on Alberta history or Territorial history where there is a regional relevance. The contest is open to all post-secondary, undergraduate students attending a university or college in Alberta in the 2011-12 academic year. The essay should be no more than 2500 words (including endnotes). Limit of one essay per student. Essays should be in a digital format, Word preferred.. The essay should include footnotes or endnotes where appropriate. The winning essay will be published in History NOW. Other submitted essays may be reserved for publication in History NOW. The Society maintains copyright of the published essays. Entries must be received by April15, 2012. The essays will be judged by a three-person panel from the Historical Society of Alberta. FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Press Release– November 8, 2011 – Since its founding by the Province of Alberta in 1907, the Historical Society of Alberta has worked tirelessly for the preservation and promotion of Alberta’s rich history. Now, as part of the Society’s continuing commitment to Alberta history and to the teaching of Alberta history in Alberta’s colleges and universities, the H.S.A. is pleased to continue its $1,000 Essay Contest. The H.S.A. has always done its best to support the students of our province. Now we have the perfect vehicle – this Essay Contest – to encourage the writing of Alberta history and ensure that Alberta history is learned in our colleges and universities. Open to post-secondary undergraduate students attending a university or college in Alberta, participants are asked to write an essay on any aspect of the history of Alberta.
