Albert Einstein
One of the most famous physicists known today by every child, teen, and grown up is Albert Einstein. He is so well known that many people can tell you right off the top of their heads what he is famous four. He was a powerful man who stood up for what he believed in. He failed in many things which in turn helped him to succeed. This essay is specifically focused on him.
Albert Einstein was born at Ulm, in Wurttemberg, Germany, on March 14, 1879. He enjoyed classical music and played the violin. One story Einstein liked to tell about his childhood was of a wonder he saw when he was four or five years old: a magnetic compass. The needle's invariable northward swing, guided by an invisible force, profoundly impressed the child. The compass convinced him that there had to be "something behind things, something deeply hidden."

Near the beginning of his career, Einstein thought that Newtons ideas we out of date and no longer agreed with the laws of mechanics and laws of the electromagnetic field. This led to the development of his special theory of relativity. He realized, however, that the principle of relativity could also be extended to gravitational fields. After realizing this he published the first paper on the theory of relativity in 1916. He continued to deal with problems of statistical mechanics and quantum theory, which led to his explanations of particle theory and the motion of molecules. He later investigated thermal properties which laid a firm foundation of the photon theory of light.

In 1933, Albert was on a trip in the United States when Hitler came to power. After this took place he decided to never return to Germany. He joined the staff of the newly created Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton, New Jersey. He accepted this position for life, living there until his death. Einstein is probably familiar to most people for his mathematical equation about the nature of energy, E = MC2.

On October 1, 1940 Einstein was sworn in as American citizen, keeping however also his Swiss citizenship. In a public letter to the United Nations in 1946 Einstein proposed to install a world government in which he saw the only chance for peace. Over the course of his life time Einstein was able to produce more then 300 scientific papers, and over 150 non scientific papers. He is considered to be one of the smartest people to walk the earth and a genius.

Some of Einsteins most famous works are: Special Theory of Relativity (1905), Relativity (English translations, 1920 and 1950), General Theory of Relativity (1916), Investigations on Theory of Brownian Movement (1926), and The Evolution of Physics (1938). Among his non-scientific works, About Zionism (1930), Why War? (1933), My Philosophy (1934), and Out of My Later Years (1950) are perhaps the most important.

Einstein’s gifts helped him to achieve and show the world many great things. He was dedicated to his work and never gave up on anything. He suffered from health problems and loneliness, but through it all he pulled through to become one of the world greatest physicists’ to walk on the face of this earth.
