Scholarship & Application Log

Process for Scholarship and College Applications:

  • Submit your College or Scholarship Application on your own

  • Log Application with Mrs. Charlton in Guidance & bring an envelope with 2 stamps so the following materials can be mailed

    1. Counselor Recommendation Form (some of these are online… in this case, don’t forget to enter as the counselor email)

    2. Official Transcript

    3. Current Schedule

    4. Copy of SC Uniform Grading Policy

    5. School Profile

    6. Your Resume

    7. Recommendation Letters (optional)

  • If you are submitting an application on the “Common Application” – you are still required to log your application however no envelope is needed

  • Email notifications, printed requests dropped off at guidance front desk, etc… WILL NOT BE PROCESSED! All requests must be logged. This policy is for your protection! 

Regular Decision Deadlines

The regular decision deadline for Clemson and USC is December 1st. The regular decision deadline for College of Charleston is February 1st. For early notification, Honors College, and scholarship decision deadlines, please visit the respective colleges websites. Log your application early and beat the rush! December 1st is just around the corner!!!

College Visits

Juniors and seniors are strongly encouraged to visit colleges before applying. Students are allowed 3 visits per school year. The procedure for an official college day is outlined below. All three steps must be followed for your visit to be considered a field trip - otherwise the visit is unexcused.

  1. Bring a note from your parent to the attendance office 5 days prior to your college day requesting a visit.

  2. The Attendance Office will then give you a prearranged absence form to have signed by your teachers. Return it to the attendance office before your visit.

  3. Obtain a note on letterhead from the college confirming the visit (no parking pass or brochure) and return to attendance.

Boston University REA

Restrictive Early Action at Boston College permits students to apply to other colleges under Early Action or Regular Decision programs.  REA applicants to Boston College may not apply to a binding Early Decision program, since that student could not consider an REA offer of admission from Boston College if admitted to the Early Decision program. Deadline is November 1st. Any student not apply to a binding early decision program may apply.

The American Legion Dept. of South Carolina’s H.S. Oratorical Scholarship Program

A Constitutional Speech Contest (2 national, 1 state)

The purpose of this Scholarship Program is to develop a deeper knowledge and appreciation of the Constitution of the United States. Contestants must give both their prepared oration and the assigned topic discourse in order to eligible for one of the following, three Scholarships:

  1. Post Contests – TBA

Post Contests must be concluded by January 11, 2014.

  1. Quadrant Contests - 1st place receives $18,000

All contests will be held February 15, 2014.

  1. State Contest – 1st Place receives a $2,000 Scholarship

State Finals Contest: March 1, 2014, at the Clarion Town House Hotel, 1615 Gervais St., Columbia, SC 29201.

Army ROTC provides a great foundation for a professional career and makes a difference for young men and women and the U.S. Army by providing a life changing opportunity and experience through college and on into life.

Auburn University

Auburn University is offering numerous scholarships for incoming freshman. Students accepted for admission must apply for scholarships through the new Auburn University Scholarship Opportunity Manager (AUSOM) to be considered for scholarships.

Deadline for priority consideration: December 1, 2013.

Boston University Trustee Scholarship Competition

Boston University will select 26 Trustee Scholars to the Boston University community. Each scholar is awarded full undergraduate tuition plus orientation and mandatory undergraduate student fees for four years. Trustee scholars rank at the top of their classes and are leaders in their schools and communities.

Brown Mackie College

This year we are proud to award our President’s Scholarship in the amount of two $5,000 tuition scholarships for the 2014-2015 academic year. Come by guidance to receive a scholarship application.

Deadline is May 1, 2014.

African-American Male Teachers are needed.

Christian Connector

The Christian Connector provides a free Christian college information service as well as a $2,500 Christian college scholarship drawing.

Criteria: Minority


Columbia College

  1. The McNair Scholarship

Criteria: First-year students who demonstrate outstanding academic achievements with a commitment to service and leadership. Scholarship benefits include full tuition for four years of college, as long as scholarship criteria are maintained.

  1. The Momentum Scholarship

Criteria: Students are nominated by their high school principals, school counselors, or teacher. Uniquely designed for students whose personal determination and academic accomplishments may outshine their standardized test scores. Scholarship benefits include academic funding from $14,000 up to full tuition.
Deadline to nominate is Friday, November 15, 2013.

  1. South Carolina Teaching Fellows Program –

Criteria: Exhibited high academic achievement, a history of service to their school and community, and a desire to teach in South Carolina. The Program provides up to a $24,000 fellowship for as many as 175 outstanding high school seniors who agree to teach in South Carolina, one year for every year they receive the Fellowship.
Deadline is December 1st.
Donnetta H Martin Scholariship Assoc.

Donnetta H. Martin lived a life that exemplified selfless service, nurturing encouragement, and agape love to everyone with who she interacted. This scholarship was created to perpetuate her legacy. The finalist will receive a $1,000 scholarship.

Criteria: High school senior and SC resident
Deadline: Third week of February. Come by guidance for a scholarship application
Elks National Foundation

The Elks National Foundation awards scholarships to 500 high school seniors nationwide. Each winner will receive a four-year scholarship to their institution each year.

Emory Scholars and Goizueta Scholars

Students must respond to a Scholars-specific essay prompt, submit a teacher recommendation, and the counselor’s recommendation.

Deadline: November 15, 2013.
Erskine Presidential Scholarship Competition

The Erskine College Presidential Scholarship is the most prestigious undergraduate scholarship offered at Erskine. This scholarship covers tuition, room, board and fees – the value over four years is approximately $165,000.

Furman University Max Heller Scholarship

Each high school in Greenville County will select one outstanding scholar to receive a $20,000 per year renewable scholarship to Furman University. Superior academic achievement, leadership, community involvement, character, volunteerism, and commitment to attending Furman will be factors in the selection process.

Gardner Webb University

Gardner Webb University offers the following institutional scholarships and grants: Trustee Scholarship, Presidential Scholarship, Provost Scholarship, Dean’s Scholarship, Achievement Scholarship, Challenge Grant.

Gates Millennium Scholars Program

Eligibility requirements: Must be African American, American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian Pacific Islander American, or Hispanic American, US Citizen, national, or legal permanent resident of the US, GPA of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale or have earned a GED. You must be enrolling in an accredited college or university for the first time (except students enrolled in dual credit courses), as a full time-degree seeking student, demonstrate leadership abilities, and meet Federal Pell Grant eligibility criteria.

Greehey Scholars Program at St. Mary’s University, Texas

The Greehey Scholar’s Program provides a full scholarship to an out-of-state student in the Bill Greehey School of Business. The scholarship covers four years of tuition, room and board fees, as well as an allowance for books.

Hampton Fund Scholarships

  1. *The Harry Hampton Scholarship – For students who wish to further their education in the natural resources discipline, such as wildlife biology, fisheries biology, forestry, or marine science. The recipient will receive this Scholarship for four (4) years of college

Criteria: GPA 2.5

  1. *The David M. Cline Scholarship - For students who wish to further their education in the natural resources discipline, such as wildlife biology, fisheries biology, forestry, marine science or law enforcement/criminal justice. The recipient receives this Scholarship for one (1) year of college only.

  1. *The Wallace F. Pate Scholarship – For students who wish to further their education in the natural resources discipline, such as wildlife biology, fisheries biology, forestry, or marine science. The recipient receives this Scholarship for one (1) year of college only.

  1. The James O. Thomason Scholarship – For students who wish to further their education in print or photo journalism, advertising, public relations or mass communications.

Criteria: 2.5 GPA or above

Hessie Morrah Horticulture Scholarship ($2,000 award)

Hessie Morrah offers financial aid to high school seniors and encourages the study of Agriculture, Agronomy, Botany, City Planning, Floriculture, Forestry, Land Management , Landscape Architecture, Plant Pathology, Historic Preservation, or related majors

John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Essay Contest

1st-place winner receives $10,000, the 2nd-place winner receives $1,000, and up to 5 finalists receive $500 each. Win an expense-paid trip to Boston, receive recognition at the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum in Boston, and enhance, and develop research, and writing skills.

Kittie Moss Fairey Educational Fund Scholarship Program
Criteria: 3.0 on 4.0 scales; SAT 1800 or ACT 26, applicant’s parents must have a household income not exceeding $40,000. Students must be planning to attend an accredited, 4-year college or University in SC and be a SC resident.

Montgomery Belk Scholarship – Davidson College

MHS may nominate one student who demonstrates superior intellectual and personal achievement and significant leadership ability for the Montgomery Belk Scholarship. If you are interested in Davidson College and would like to be considered for this prestigious award, please see Mrs. Charlton in Guidance. Nomination deadline is December 1, 2013

McNair Scholarship – Francis Marion University

Scholarship provides tuition, fees, book allowance, campus housing and meal plan at Francis Marion University.

Criteria: SC resident, GPA 3.0 or higher, SAT 1100 or higher or ACT 24 or higher, display dedication to public service, submit two original essays, participate in service learning and travel opportunities while enrolled at FMU, study abroad in one of several possible student exchange programs.
Deadline: November 25, 2013.

National Association of Federal Education Program Administrators

This scholarship program provides financial support to qualifying seniors who are pursuing post-secondary education. NAFEPA offers three different $2,500 scholarships. Come by the guidance office to pick up an application.

Criteria: Financial need and involvement in extracurricular activities within the community or church

NFIB Young Entrepreneur Award Program

The Awards are non-renewable scholarships created to recognize young people who have demonstrated entrepreneurial spirit and initiative. Scholarships are valued between $1,000 and $10,000.

Criteria: Attending an accredited two-or-four-year university, college, or vocational institute in the fall of 2014 and who owns/operates an established business.

Foothills Scholarships are awarded to the most outstanding applicants admitted to North Greenville

Criteria: SAT 1150 or ACT 25; GPA of 3.5.

Or recipients must rank in the top ten percent; GPA of 4.0.

Queens University of Charlotte

Ron Brown Scholar Program

Criteria: African-American high school senior who demonstrates financial need

South Carolina Association of Title I Administrators

The SCATA awards six $2,000 scholarships and six $1,000 scholarships to twelve qualifying high school seniors. Two scholarships are awarded in each of the six regions. Come by guidance for an application

Criteria: Applicant must be eligible for free or reduced lunch

South Carolina Junior Golf Foundation Scholarship

Criteria: GPA 2.75 on a 4.0 scale; SC resident; cumulative or recreational interest in golf; recipients must attend an accredited public or private, four-year college or university located in SC in the fall of 2014.

South Carolina State University Honors College Scholarships

  • Presidential Scholarships – Two freshmen will receive a full scholarship (tuition, room & board) and a book loan

Criteria: 3.50 GPA on the uniform grading scale; 1200 SAT or 27 ACT.

  • The General University Scholarship (SC residents only)

Criteria: 3.25 GPA on the uniform grading scale; 1100 SAT or 24 ACT.
South Carolina School of the Arts at Anderson University

All Department of Art and Design applicants are required to participate in a portfolio review in order to be considered for scholarships up to $3,500 per year. Fall preview is November 22, 2013.

SportQuest Playing with Purpose Scholarship

(Top 4 Finalists will receive a $2,000 award; Top 20 Finalists will receive a $300 award)

SportQuest is a unique program that recognizes and rewards the nation’s outstanding Christian Student Athletes who are high school sophomores, juniors or seniors.
Criteria: “C” average or higher; varsity level athlete in one or more sports; committed follower of Jesus Christ.

SunTrust Off to College Sweepstakes

High school seniors can enter for a chance to win a $1,000 scholarship for their education expenses at a college or university. One winner will be chosen every two weeks from Oct. 25, 2013 through May 9, 2014.

This sweepstakes is FREE to enter and is not based on GPA or financial need.
Syracuse University School of Architecture
5-year Professional degree in Architecture
Criteria: Minority
Teaching Fellows South Carolina

This program provides fellowships for up to 175 students each year. Students will participate in enrichment programs at a Teaching Fellows Institution, participate in professional development and leadership opportunities, partner with communities and businesses, and receive up to a $6,000 fellowship annually for four years.

Criteria: Fellows must agree to teach in a South Carolina public school one year for each year he/she receives monies.

University of South Carolina Academic Scholarships
Criteria: SAT 1200 or better or an equivalent ACT 28 or higher are considered for scholarships at USC.

Virginia Military Institute Scholarship Program
The VMI scholarship program is available to academically talented and intellectually curious students with a well-balanced high school record that includes leadership roles and a broad spectrum of extracurricular activities.
Criteria: 1350 SAT or 30 on ACT and a high school GPA of 3.7 or above.

The Watson-Brown Foundation Scholarship
