Cotton Gin’s purpose was to separate the cotton seeds from the cotton fibers.
Made it faster and more profitable to process cotton.
Large cotton plantations were soon established which needed large quantities of workers. The cheapest labor available was slaves so plantation owners purchased additional slaves to work these farms. As a result the Cotton Gin and Whitney are directly credited with encouraging pre-Civil War slavery.
