1765- 1825 The Inventor of the Cotton Gin Cotton Gin’s purpose was to separate the cotton seeds from the cotton fibers. Made it faster and more profitable to process cotton. Large cotton plantations were soon established which needed large quantities of workers. The cheapest labor available was slaves so plantation owners purchased additional slaves to work these farms.
