Gutenberg combined all three of these inventions into a practical process that allowed for the mass production of printed books that did not cost a lot of money. This allowed for reading material to be widely distributed and revolutionized the book making process.

Large cotton plantations were soon established which needed large quantities of workers. The cheapest labor available was slaves so plantation owners purchased additional slaves to work these farms. As a result the Cotton Gin and Whitney are directly credited with encouraging pre-Civil War slavery.
