Bebe Nanki Ladli Beti Scheme:
Earlier this scheme was known as Kanya Jagriti Jyoti Scheme. This scheme has been renamed by the Punjab Govt. Under this scheme, scholarship is paid to the girl students of poor families, who adopt the norm of two children in the family. Two girls from a family may be covered under this scheme. 288 cases have been sent for approval till date.
Swayamsidha Scheme:
Swayamsidha scheme was launched by the Govt. of India to uplift the women financially, particularly in rural areas. ICDS Block Tarsikka was also selected to implement this scheme. Under this scheme, 106 Self Help Groups of women have been formed. 1446 poor women from different villages of Block Tarsikka are members of these Self Help Groups. Since inception of this scheme Rs.4894343/- have been saved by these members and Rs.3508795/- have been advanced as loan to various needy women members as per reports for the month of March’2016. Rs.650000/- were given as loan to different SHGs by the Banks to start some income generating works. Members of these SHGs are engaged in Stitching & embroidery, karyana shops, Beauty parlors, Hindustan Lever Agencies, STD shops, Football stitching, mushroom farming, wool shops and Neel making etc.
Indira Gandhi Matritava Sahyog Yojna:
This scheme is funded by the Govt. of India. At present this scheme is launched only in two districts of Punjab, Kapurthala and Amritsar. Under this scheme up to Rs.6, 000/- is being paid to Pregnant & nursing mothers who fulfill the conditions of the scheme. Rs.9648000/- have been disbursed to 3604 beneficiaries of this scheme till 31.03.2016.
Karjkarta Bima Yojna for AWWs & AWHs:
Under this scheme Anganwadi Workers & Anganwadi Helpers between the age group of 18 years to 59 years are covered under insurance. In case of death of any covered AWWs or AWHs, Rs.30, 000/- are paid to the nominee. If any covered member suffers from some cancer related disease, an amount up to Rs.75, 000/- is also given for treatment. Scholarship of Rs.1200/- (annually) is also given by LIC to two children of covered members, who are studying in 9th class to 12th class.
Various functions organised during the year 2015-16:
Nutrition Week:
Nutrition week was celebrated at village Boparai on 16/09/2015 Dr. Tanjua Goyal, CDPO, Supervisors, Anganwadi Workers, Helpers, Schools Teachers, village women and many other people participated in the nutrition week's celebrations.
First and foremost, Supervisor of the Circle, Mrs. Satwinder Kaur welcomed everyone and told them about the benefits of a nutritious diet. Dr. Tanuja Goyal, CDPO, highlighted the importance of a balanced diet. She said that our daily diet must include pulses, green vegetable and fresh fruits. A demonstration on Nutrition Recipes was given to the women by the Supervisors of the block. At the end of the function, Smt. Satwinder Kaur, Supervisor thanked everyone for participating in the Nutrition Week Celebrations.
Breast Feeding Week Celebrated :
A Seminar on the 'Importance of Breast Feeding' was held at Tarsikka village on 7th August, 2015. Dr. Tanuja Goyal, CDPO told the gathering about the importance of Breast Feeding and said that it protects a child from different diseases. She said that a nursing mother should have a nutritious diet.
Mrs. Balbir kaur, ANM also told that a woman must breast feed her child for two years to keep the child away from diseases. At the end, Supervisor of that circle thanked everyone, who attended the seminar.
Block Task force meeting under Beti Bachao Beti Padhao scheme:
A meeting of the Block Task Force constituted under Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Scheme was held in the office of CDPO, Tarsikka. The Committee had been constituted by the SDM, Baba Bakala. Sh. Sandip Malhotra, BDPO, Shri Sukhdev Kumar Bangar, Tehsildar, Smt. Kanwaljit Bhalla, and Mrs. Anita, District Child Protection Officer & Panchayat Secretaries of different villages & Sarpanch of that village were present in the meeting. Mrs. Tanjua Goyal, CDPO, Tarsikka welcomed everyone & gave a brief information regarding the Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao Scheme. She also explained about different schemes being run by the Govt. for the girl child viz IGMSY Scheme, Bebe Nanki Ladli Scheme etc. The main aim of running these schemes is to improve the social and educational status of girl child & to improve the sex-ratio in the State.
Speaking on the occasion, Mrs. Kanwaljeet Bhalla of Health Department explained about the PNDT Act. She said that Pre-Natal Sex Determination test is an offence, and anybody who violates this is liable for a legal action.
In the function, a detailed note of schemes being run by the Govt. like 'Janani Surkhya Yojna', 'Ambulance 108 Services', 'Baalri Surakhya Schemes' was given on the occasion. Speaking on the occasion Madam Anita informed about homes for the orphan children & about the financial help of Rs.2500/- per month given to the BPL families for their children's upbringing for their health and education from Child Protection Unit.
Mr. Sukhdev Singh Bangar, Naib Tehsildar said that people of villages should be enlightened about Beti Bachao, Beti Padao Scheme.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Gurjinder Singh, Chairman, Block Samiti said that such seminars on 'Beti Bachao, Beti Padao, should be organised in every village to create awareness among public.
Independence Day & Republic Day Functions:
All the staff members of ICDS Block Tarsikka were present at Independence Day function organised on 15.08.2015 at Baba Bakala, Tehsil complex and Republic Day functions organised on 26.01.2016 at Stadium, Baba Bakala. Beautiful Rangoli was prepared by the staff of ICDS Block on these occasions. A Jhanki on Model Anganwadi Center and 'Beti Bachao Beti Padhao' was prepared by the office of CDPO, Tarsikka & CDPO, Amritsar on the occasion.
Lohri of Girl Child Celebrated :-
A function to celebrate the Lohri of girls was celebrated at Muchhal village of ICDS, Tarsikka Block on 12th January, 2016. The function was organised at Govt. High School, Muchhal, in which lohri of eleven newly born girls was celebrated. Anganwadi Workers, helpers, family members of the newly born girls, Panchayat members, representatives of NGOs, A.N.M., Asha workers, ladies of the village participated. Mrs. Narinder Kaur, Circle Supervisor told about the 'Beti Bachao, Beti Padao Campaign'.
She explained that this scheme launched by the Govt. provides Safe birth, Immunization, Good Health, admission of children in schools, provision of separate toilets for girls students in schools, congenial environment for children, To stop female foeticide & provision of equal rights to boys & girls. Under this scheme, Task Force Committees have been constituted at village & Block level. In the Block Level Committee, the S.D.M. will be the Chairman & CDPO will be the convener & SMO, BDPO, D.S.P. & members of NGOs will be the members of the Committee.
The Supervisors of the block explained about the IGMSY and Bebe Nanki Scheme being run by the Govt. Mr. Balbir Singh, Teacher of that school urged everyone to give equal opportunities of Education to the girls. The girls should not face discrimination in the society. Girls are excelling in each & every field these days. Lohri function were also celebrated at Tarsikka, Khajala, Boparai, Mattewal, Dhulka & Tangra villages.
CHILD PROTECTION
ADOPTION
The Child Welfare Council, Punjab is functioning as a scrutinizing agency for guardianship and adoption work as authorized by the Supreme Court of India. Officers of Child Welfare Council including the Secretary has been attending the Court as and when there is requirement by the Court.
SUPPORTING CHILDREN WITH SPECIAL NEEDS
Vani Integrated School for the Hearing Impaired :
The Council is running a School called “Vani Integrated School for Hearing Impaired” at Patiala since 2006. The school is running from Nursery to 10th Class and 203 children are studying in the school, out of which 51 children are special children with disabilities like Hearing Impaired, Slow Learners, Mentally Retarded Children & Autistic Children. Children are imparted education on Punjab Education Pattern by the trained staff. During the year, students of Vani School participated in various activities.
Van Mahotsav was celebrated in Vani School on 25th July, 2015. Dr. Pritpal Singh Sidhu, Hony. Secretary, DCWC, Patiala highlighted the importance of Plants in our life. Teej festival was celebrated in August, wherein a Mehandi Competition was organised in the school. Eleven students of Vani School participated in the Divisional Level Painting Competition held at Fatehgarh Sahib on 28th August, 2015.
The students of Vani School participated in a Group Dance Competition organised by 'Rainbow Club' on 24th August, 2015. In this competition Hearing Impaired girls of the school won first prize & Mentally Retarded children got third prize. Twelve district had participated in this competition. The students of Vani School were taken on a trip to Dhillon Fun World, Patiala on 7th May, 2015. The students enjoyed rides and water park.
Teacher's Day was celebrated on 5th September, 2015, in which students performed many activities. Students were encouraged by the Principal & staff of the school. Diwali was celebrated on 9th November, 2015 at Vani School. Dr. Simarpreet Kaur, Assistant Commissioner, Patiala & Dr. P.S. Sidhu, Hony. Secretary, DCWC, Patiala gave prizes to the students. Students of Vani School performed Gidha & Bhangra at a function organised at PPS Nabha on 8th December, 2015. Lohri was celebrated at Vani School on 13th January, 2016, in which students and staff of Vani School participated. Mrs. Gurcharan Kaur & Mrs. Banga, member of the District Child Welfare Council were present on the occasion. The students of Vani school participated in a Painting Competition held at Thapar University on 7th February, 2016 & won prizes. The Annual function of the school was organised on 29th March, 2016. Mr. Ram Vir, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Patiala was the Chief guest on the occasion. Dr. Simarpreet Kaur, Asstt. Commissioner, Patiala & Dr. Anupinder Kaur Sandhu, Chairperson of Jasdev Singh Sandhu Institute were also present on the occasion. A colourful programme was presented by the children. Prizes were distributed to the children who excelled in the academics.

State Level Children's Day Celebrated :
State Level Children's Day was celebrated at Dev Samaj Model High School, Ferozepur on 19th November, 2015. This year the District Child Welfare Council, Ferozepur hosted the function. Group Song, Group Dance and Poetry Recitation Competitions were organised on the occasion, in which children from different district of Punjab participated.
Er. D.P.S. Kharbanda, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Ferozepur and President of the District Child Welfare Council was the Chief guest on the occasion. Dr. Pritam Sandhu, Secretary, CWC, Pb. also graced the occasion. Dr. Sandhu welcomed the Chief guest and gave a detailed note of the activities being run by the Child Welfare Council, Punjab for the welfare of children in the State.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Kharbanda urged everyone not to discriminate between a girl and a boy. The girls should also be given the same opportunities of education as we give it to boys. A Souvenir brought out by the Child Welfare Council, Punjab was released on the occasion by the Chief guest.
In the Poetry recitation competition, Master Saksham Batra of Amritsar District got first prize whereas Miss Karuna of Sri Muktsar Sahib District & Miss Jasdeep Kaur of Faridkot District got second and third positions respectively. In the Group Song Competition organised on the occasion, the students of Jalandhar District got first prize, team of Ferozepur District got second prize & participants of Sri Muktsar Sahib distsrict obtained third position. In the Group Dance, Gidha competition, first position was obtained by the Jalandhar District, whereas teams of Sri Muktsar Sahib District & Faridkot District got second and third positions respectively.
The winners were given trophies by the Chief guest Mr. D.P.S. Kharbanda, D.C. Ferozepur. The participants were also given trophies and certificates. At the end of the function, Mr. Ashok Behal, Hony. Secretary, District Child Welfare Council, Ferozepur presented a vote of thanks to the D.C., Secretary, CWC, Pb. & DCWC members.
National Painting Competition 2014 Winners of Punjab State :
Four children from Punjab State have been selected for the National Painting Competition – 2014 organised by the Indian Council for Child Welfare New Delhi. The paintings of the State Level winners were sent to the ICCW, New Delhi for the NPC-2014. The judgement of the paintings of all the winners from different States was held on 11th August, 2015 at ICCW, Head Quarters by the eminent panel of judges.
Master Jashanpreet Singh of Ujala Red Cross School for the Visually Impaired School, Faridkot won consolation Prize in 'Visually Impaired' Sub Group of Yellow Group (5-10 years). Master Rajwinder Singh of Govt. Middle School for Boys, Sadiq, Faridkot won Consolation Prize in 'Visually Impaired' Sub Group of Red Group (11-18 years). Master Tejpartap Singh of St. Joseph Convent Special School Jalandhar won second prize in 'Visually Impaired' Sub Group of Yellow Group (5-10 years). Miss Iram of Khosla Deaf School, SUS Nagar, Jalandhar won consolation prize in 'Speech/Hearing Impaired' Sub Group of Yellow Group (5-10 years).
Children who have obtained first, second & third positions will be honoured at a function to be organised by the ICCW at New Delhi & the prizes of the winners of Consolation Prize will be sent to the participants through the Punjab Council.
Divisional Level Painting Competitions :
The Divisional Level Painting Competitions were organised at Fatehgarh Sahib, Ferozepur and Gurdaspur districts on 28th August, 22nd September and 7th October, 2015 respectively.
In the Divisional Level Painting Competition held at Fatehgarh Sahib, around 120 students from Patiala, Ropar, Mohali and Fatehgarh Sahib District participated. The competition was organised at Mata Sundari Sr. Sec. School, Attewali, Fatehgarh Sahib. The Competition was organised for different groups according to the age of the students, vize Green Group (5-8 years), White Group (9-12 years), Blue Group (13-16 years) and two groups for Special Children- Yellow Group (5-10 years), Red Group (11-18 years). Ms. Sonam Chowdhary, Asstt. Commissioner (G), Fatehgarh Sahib was the Chief guest on the occasion. Dr. Pritam Sandhu, Secretary, CWC, Pb. also graced the function.
In the Divisional Level Painting Competition held at Ferozepur, 72 children from Bathinda, Ferozepur, Faridkot, Moga & Muktsar District participated in the function. The competition was organised at Govt. Sr. Sec. School for Boys, Ferozepur. Dr. Pritam Sandhu, Secretary, CWC, Pb. was the Chief guest on the occasion.
The Divisional Level Painting Competition of Jalandhar division was held at Gurdaspur on 7th October, 2015. In this competition, students from Jalandhar, Amritsar, Nawanshahar, Kapurthala, Bathinda, Hoshiarpur and Gurdaspur district participated. Dr. Pritam Sandhu, Secretary, CWC, Pb. was the Chief guest on the occasion.
The paintings of all the Divisional Level Painting Competitions were adjudged in the office of Child Welfare Council, Punjab on 23rd November, 2015 by Mr. Jodh Singh, a renowned artist and Mr. Mnohar Lal, Lecturer, Govt. Arts College, Chandigarh. 49 paintings were selected for the State Level Painting Competition. These paintings were sent to ICCW, New Delhi for selection in the National Painting Competition – 2015.
