This course will investigate some of the myths and realities of globalization. Although not a new phenomenon, the protests in Seattle at the 1999 meeting of the WTO brought many of the issues and problems concerning globalization to the forefront and onto the front pages and the lead stories of the local news. We will explore these issues in an interdisciplinary manner using fiction, film, and the popular media with special attention given to four guest lecturers who will be visiting the Agnes Scott campus during the 2001-2002 academic year: Bapsi Sidhwa, Diana Eck, Thomas Friedman, and Naomi Klein.
